If you go down to Dunbar today, you’re sure of a big surprise – Andy Scott’s enormous bear sculpture has arrived in East Lothian.
The 16ft-tall sculpture will be placed near the A1 roundabout at Dunbar (near Asda) as a tribute to naturalist John Muir .
Muir, who was from Dunbar , was responsible for preserving many of America’s most scenic natural locations as national parks.
The sculpture has been constructed in a similar steel lattice style to Scott’s famous Kelpies at Falkirk, greeting visitors to the town.
The ‘Dunbar Bear’ has taken to Twitter today to update everyone on its arrival on ‘Bear Hill’ near the busy road.
Facebook groups such as ‘Dunbar Online’ have been flooded with locals sharing their photos of the coastal town’s new addition.
One user commented: “Public Art: love it. Particularly proud of oor Big Ted!”
Others have voiced their concerns around the location of the bear, with one person adding: “I hope they do some landscaping so you dont have to see the backside of ASDA! Love the bear, hate the location.”
According to a Facebook thread the Dunbar Bear will be being unveiled to the public at 10am tomorrow.
