GAINESVILLE, Fla., (WCJB) — With the upcoming opening of a public park, the city of Gainesville partnered with an area artist to create a piece of art to attract people.
The “Edward the Eagle” sculpture is on display at the Reserve Park on Northeast 8th Avenue, which is currently under construction and set to open early next year.
“I’m just happy that I could make something that everyone can relate to and appreciate. I used all recycled metals, I don’t like using anything new,” said John Andrews, welder sculptor.
The eagle weighs 400 pounds and Andrews says it took about five months to complete the project. He also has several other sculptures located throughout the city.
