DEKALB, Ill. (WIFR) — School spirit hits a high note at Northern Illinois University, as the campus unveils a sculpture that cannot be missed.
Students and staff rallied around the MLK Commons for the debut of “Huskie Pride,” a six-foot by 19-foot sculpture.
NIU huskie mascot “Mission” gives it the stamp of approval. Campus leaders hope the bold piece will bolster NIU pride.
“It’s a very optimistic time on our campus,” says Lisa Freeman, NIU president. “We’re able to invest in our facilities for the first time in a long time. But there’s nothing more important than investing in the spaces that our students use the most.”
Freeman says major renovations to the Holmes Student Center are set to open on Oct. 26 during homecoming weekend.
