DEKALB (WREX) — Northern Illinois University now has a place for the perfect photo to show your Huskie pride.
NIU unveiled its brand new Huskie Pride sculpture Friday afternoon in the MLK Commons.
The university hopes the sculpture will act as a “touchstone” of Huskie enthusiasm for alumni, students and the DeKalb community at large.
In the age of social media, NIU wanted to provide a place for students to share their love for the school on any online platform with the hashtag #HuskiePride. The hashtag is emblazoned on a concrete pad along with the sculpture.
Contributors say it’s another way the Huskie family can celebrate their school pride.
“This is just one more way for the students, the faculty, the alumni,” says Dennis Barsema, NIU Board of Trustees Chairman. “For all those that are a part of the NIU family to show their Huskie pride.”
The sculpture comes just in time for NIU’s 125th Anniversary celebration beginning in January.
