And whether you’re looking for a colorful downtown portrait or a lakeside shot during golden hour, there’s truly something for everyone. Read on for some can’t-miss spots for everything from selfies to senior portraits.

Deep Ellum Murals

Deep Ellum is full of vibrant street art, so it’s pretty much impossible not to snap a photo or two when you’re in the neighborhood. But if you want your portrait to really pop, use a lens with a wide aperture (think f/2.0 or lower) to create a background blur. Direct the subject to stand away from the wall a little, and they’ll be in sharp focus with the art just slightly blurry.

Nasher Sculpture Center

Golden hour is great and all, but you should also take advantage of nature’s gray card (and Texas’ unpredictable weather) and shoot when it’s overcast. Head to Nasher Sculpture Center and take a stroll outside. The gorgeous sculptures/shadows, lush scenery and varying heights will make for a stunningly moody portrait.

Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

Everyone should have a portrait with the Dallas skyline. Head over at golden hour for a glowy portrait in front of the cityscape or include the bridge’s unique architecture in your shot for some fun framing.

Don’t be afraid to think a little outside the box to make that perfect portrait happen—there’s actually some A+ locations right next to the roads.
