UTICA, N.Y. – Empire Recycling Corporation has created a short film in collaboration with Sculpture Space, showcasing the process of transforming scrap metal into art.
“Earth Day” will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute’s auditorium. The showing is free to the public.
Empire works with Sculpture Space each year to provide materials to artists who create pieces that will be sold during the annual CHAIRity Auction.
The 16-minute-long film follows married couple Patrick Cuffe and Aimee Tarasek, both artists, on their journey making art pieces for the auction. They were filmed for six months, documenting the process of selecting materials from Empire and creating the artwork. Viewers will also get to see the auction and where the pieces end up in buyers’ homes.
A panel discussion will follow the film showing, featuring Empire president, Steven Kowalsky; executive director of Sculpture Space, Tom Montan; as well as Cuffe and Tarasek.
