Takashi Murakami has been seen wearing a pair of Mr. Bailey — aka Daniel Bailey — designed sneakers inspired by his sculpture The Simple Things.

The sculpture was created in collaboration with Pharrell Williams and utilizes Murakami’s typical approach of kaleidoscopic colors, reinterpreting the artist’s character Mr. DOB. Now, Murakami wears a pair of sneakers inspired by this sculpture that are limited to just three pairs.

Mr. Bailey’s most notable inspiration for these Vibram rubber and EVA sole-equipped sneakers is The Simple Things’ teeth, which take the form of an outsole for the bold sneaker. The seven jewel-encrusted “simple things” found inside the sculptures’ mouth now appear as mini 3D-printed objects inside the tongue of each sneaker, while an outer bootie and colorful inner skin co-created with Construct:10061 nods to the skin of the sculpture and the inside of its mouth.

The moccasin-like sneaker is complete with fit-adjusting toggles, side zippers, bold interior lining and a box made from Japanese Takeo paper that opens to reveal a colorful interior lined with teeth. Take a closer look at Mr. Bailey’s The Simple Things-inspired sneaker in the gallery above.
