A luxury hotel in Edinburgh’s city centre has appealed for the public’s help in catching the vandals who targeted its toy soldiers and are even offering a reward for information.

The Edinburgh Grand, located on St Andrew Square, took to social media after discovering one of its soldier sculptures had been damaged by vandals sometime yesterday evening (22 November).

A statement on The Edinburgh Grand Facebook page said: “Breaking News. We are saddened at the news that one of our toy soldiers has been wounded while on duty last night.

The soldiers are part of the hotel’s Christmas decorations

“If you know who is responsible for vandalising our Christmas decorations then please come forward. In the spirit of Christmas we are willing to offer a reward.”

It is unclear whether the reward will be in cash or a complimentary reward within the hotel.

One person said: “That’s terrible hope they get caught…or they will get away with it and will continue to vandalise anything.”

Another wrote “hope you catch the culprit”, while one user suggested checking CCTV.

A spokesperson for The Edinburgh Grand said: “Everyone at The Edinburgh Grand is saddened that our much admired Christmas toy soldiers were vandalised last night.

“During the short time since they were installed, we have seen so many families with young children enjoying taking photographs with them.

“The police have been informed and we would be grateful to hear from anyone who has any information about this senseless act of vandalism, which is so far from the spirit of Christmas.”

Edinburgh Live has contacted The Edinburgh Grand for comment.
